So, you want a website, you know pretty much what you are looking for but have you considered these factors when choosing a company to design your site?

1) Firstly and most importantly is to go have a look at different companies and their portfolio, do you like their work? Study the layouts and designs of previous clients. You may also want to contact a previous customer to find out on their experience with the designer.

2) The next stage would be to contact the chosen designer with as much information of your thoughts about the design you are looking for. Include what pages and colour schemes etc... Also ask when they could start work on it and when it would be finished.

3) Ask what is included in the design and if there are any after services of any type, many designers will offer you 1 month of support after the design is finished. This is helpful for tweaking and making any final amendments to the website. The company might even submit your site to the search engines for the first month

4) Another very important part of any design work and i think it is only good practise is to design all websites SEO ready. I find it bad custom to not take into account the search engines. So make sure they are willing to put in a little bit of extra time and make it search engine friendly.

5) What type of platform and software is the company going to design your site on? Are you going to be interactive with your website or is the company going to control all what is added to the site?

6) Who owns the property rights to the website and domain? Is it going to be yours or theirs? This is important to think about depending on your type of business and individual likings.

7) If you choose for the designer to update your site when needed, ask them how much they charge to maintain your site? It will be either fixed rates or by an hourly fee.

8) When and how do you have to make payments and is their guarantee that the project will be finished by the deadline?

I hope this article has been helpful, I have been a web designer and have worked in the business for more than 8 years and i find these are and should be the most important things you should ask when finding the right creator of your website.
