When designing a website the web design primary aim is that the site should be attractive to the users on the web. And the colors come into the picture first. An amateur web site designer tends to make the website attractive which is good only if the site is functional. One thing a web site designer should consider is monitor, operating system and browser compatibility. Though the monitor resorts to color dithering by mixing closest color combination and presenting the site as such to the visitor. There are many web browsers and web site visitors use many browsers settings as per one’s choice and limitations.

Hence a web site design should be color compatible for all types and models of monitors and screen settings. If you make a website using 256 color combination and most of the users monitors d not support that combination then you are going to present the visitor with a shoddy color combination on the site and this may have a bad impression on the user.

Most of the clients are not aware of web design dos and don’ts and hence find attractive colored websites with fancy image graphics quite promising. The client does not know how the web site will fare on the search engine and how unimpressive most of the visitor may find the site on the web. Such site may affect client’s business if he the web designer does not keep into consideration the issue of compatibility during the web development process.

Another aspect of using the right colors while designing the web site is that the color should deliver the purpose of the website. There is acceptability associated with colors which also define the products and mood preference of the visitor. Hence a particular color is suited to a particular mood and product. Which color is suited best to a website depending upon the product it is selling or advertising and the mood that it is supposed to generate in the user comes with experience and good professional web design will have these attributes.
