This is very important for every webmasters to increase incoming traffic to their websites in order to get additional revenue. To attain high level of organic traffic resulting revenue webmasters take several steps in order to optimize their websites for search engines. Optimizing websites for search engine results more and more diverted traffic via popular search engines. Two most important steps in order to do that are:

  1. On-Page Optimization, and
  2. Off-Page Optimization

On-Page Optimization

On page optimization involves steps making websites search engine friendly. During this process people perform several tasks including writing Meta Tags (titles, meta description and keywords), adding alternate tags to all the images used in websites, links optimization using important keywords as anchor texts, and adding XML sitemap for easy indexing of all pages by search engines. Addition of a separate robots.txt file is also an important phase that tells search engines which page to index and which one is private not meant for public access.

Keyword research is a very important phase that is backbone of every website optimization plan. Because the end purpose of website optimization is getting traffic via search engines based on the search terms (actual keywords) used by the internet surfers or potential users of websites.

Off-Page Optimization

Off-page optimization, popularly known as promotion of websites involves several key actions taken in order to get maximum quality back links for websites. This phase handles all the tasks required for generating quality back links for the websites. Article writing and submission, Blog Writing and posting, search engine submission, and directory submissions are the key actions of off-page optimization. These days use of forums, social media websites, or social networking websites for self promotion is also very popular. People take help of social bookmarking, audio and video blogs submission also in order to drive the maximum quality traffic to websites.

Article Syndication (writing articles and submitting them to quality article publishing websites) is very important part of off-page optimization. The purpose of article writing and submission is to create supporting content for a website. It helps in content based tracking of web pages by search engines.

There are numerous benefits of having back links pointing to a website. These back links ensure popularity as well as wide presence of a website over the internet. They are also a decisive factor for page rank of various pages of websites.
